Some of my favorite sessions are engagement sessions. These are the ones that have the most emotion come out of them. You get to see that “young love” feeling in all the photographs. The look between the two of them is what pulls at my heartstrings each and every time.
However, picking out your outfits can be a little challenging at times. You want to look like you put in the effort, but not ready for the top notch wedding apparel yet. I am here to give you a few tips on what to do to make sure you look amazing for your engagement session.
Coordinate, don’t match.
This is one that most people get tripped up on. Coordinate means to look cohesive by being in the same style and color scheme (note I did not say same colors, but color scheme). Same style meaning picking between casual, semi casual, or formal. A color scheme is the choice of colors used in design for a range of media to create style and appeal. Be this way not only based off the environment (like don’t wear a sweater in 90 degree weather or don’t wear heels in a field) but also as it is on you. If your shirt doesn’t quite fit right, don’t wear it. I know it may be cute and look great with his outfit, but it you are not 1,000% comfortable in it, DO NOT WEAR IT! I promise you can tell in the photographs.
Shine the ring!
Since the focus is on the fact that you just got engaged, make sure the ring is nice and shiny to show off. Make sure to get it cleaned and have it ready for its debut!
Express your style.
Outfits can set the mood for your session, so it’s never a bad idea to go with pieces that feel like you. It can make it more fun and when you show off your photos, it will feel more authentic.
