27 things I have learned in 27 years

With my birthday pretty much here, I wanted to do something a little different than my normal posts and tell you the 27 things I have learned in my 27 years of life

1: Don’t take life for granted.

2: Bring your camera with you everywhere.

3: Little kind gestures go a LONG way.

4: Start your day off with the mindset that today will be a good day.

5: Travel, travel, travel. Even if it’s by yourself.

6: Take care of yourself. You only get one body to carry you through this life.

7: A few minutes of meditation can make a significant difference in your day.

8: Never say you don’t like it until you try it.

9: Eat all the food. Always be trying new foods.

10: Dream big, and go after it.

11: Never underestimate the power of yoga.

12: Face your fears head-on.

13: Never stop learning.

14: If you don’t like something, do something about it.

15: Dogs make me very happy and I would have 1,000 if I could.

16: Slow. Down. - Stop & smell the roses.

17: Make mistakes. Learn from them. Keep going.

18: Admit when you are wrong.

19: Learn about yourself as much as you possibly can so you can use every part of you to your advantage.

20: Surround yourself with people that lift you up and encourage you to continue up.

21: Use please and thank you.

22: Everyone is human. Be gracious and understand that everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. Be slow to anger. And ask for forgiveness when you make a mistake and own up to it.

23: It’s okay to be wrong.

24: Let go of things that are toxic. If someone or something in your life does not bring you joy or causes you constant pain, remove it from your life. It has no place there.

25: Don’t be afraid to ask questions and be curious. (Curiosity doesn’t always kill the cat).

26: Constantly remind yourself of your dreams. Make vision boards, have daily alarm reminders, and even make yourself accountable. This way every time you make a decision you can have your dreams in mind.

27: Be unapologetically you.

A lot of these sound like advice, but it’s everything that I have been taught that really has stuck with me and means a lot. I try to remind myself a lot of these things daily and I challenge you to at least one of these things. Which one are you going to choose?

Ania & Levi go to prom!

I have known Ania for almost two years. I work with her mother at a medical office and see her come in a few times. She has such a bubbly personality and is always smiling. I have used her on a styled session before so she knew what I would deliver.

When she first approached me about doing prom photos, I immediately said yes. I knew it would be a wonderful experience and that she could take direction very well. Her mom and I decided on Oliver Winery in Bloomington as it was really pretty and easy to walk around for many photo opportunities. As the day got closer, the rain forecast was getting more accurate to showering right in the middle of our session time.

I made sure to have some open time before hand so if Ania got her hair and makeup done early, I could run over there and try to get them in before the rain. We were able to get over there 4 hours early from the original time. There was still some slight forecast of rain, so I prayed to the rain gods and requested them to wait until we were done. They must like me because the rain held off.

Ania and Levi DELIVERED! They were amazing to work with and were up to my crazy ideas, and Levi might have got an arm workout in at the same time since I requested lifts. They also knew the possibility of rain and were totally up to using a clear umbrella to add to the photos if needed. (Luckily we didn’t, but were up for it).

I am very excited to share with you the sneak peeks of Ania & Levi’s prom session. Thank you both so much for trusting me to capture this amazing moment in your lives. I hope you enjoy them!

Mommy & Me for Abbey & Max

I am so excited to share with you this session. So truth be told, I have not photographed a two year old I have not met before. I was a little nervous going into it. I had to pull out my training from my daycare teacher days when I used to care for up to ten 2 year olds at a time. Talk about learning to think on your feet. I had to come up with a way I knew would entertain a two year old while also getting photos and hoping that I could easily keep him happy.

I work with Abbey at a medical office full time and so I knew I would be super comfortable photographing her. The stories she would tell about her son (and her perfect impersonations) pumped me up so much to do this session with Max.

We went to the amphitheater right outside the Bryan House on Indiana University’s campus. I figured it would be a perfect backdrop as well as playground for Max. It was a win-win.

He instantly melted my heart. He was very interested in all of the surroundings, which made it very easy to get photographs. Abbey did mention they take a lot of photos of him, so he was not phased by me following him around with my big camera.

Max loved to climb around and was very interested in the non-existent fishes that were in the creek. He was very satisfied with the bubbles I brought for him to play with as well.

Abbey was a total natural as she knew how to interact with him and make amazing photo opportunities. I felt like I never needed to cue her to do anything. It made it so easy to put more focus on following the never stopping Max around.

I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful Mommy & Me session. Thank you both so much for your time and trusting me with this special moment.

Without further ado, here are some sneak peeks of their session.

A timeline for your session [what to expect]

Kaytee Lorentzen Photography offers a variety of sessions to meet your needs. With each session you get many other complimentary items. This list includes two complimentary meetings - a consultation and a viewing party, which I will explain more about in a minute.

The list below is everything you get from a session no matter which one you purchase.

What does it all include?

  • A consultation
  • A session
  • Prepared edited photos and personalized items for your wall art & albums
  • A viewing party
  • Help designing your wall art
  • A review of products before they ever enter your home

Now what is a consultation you may ask? This is where I can come to you and talk about what it is you are wanting from my services. In other words, why did you reach out to me? I offer this complimentary whether you hire me or not. I want to make sure I can deliver on what you want. If I am not a good match for you, I don't want you to spend any money. Period. Why hire someone you won't be happy with?

The viewing party is after I have completed my touch ups and my personal touch to your photographs. This is when I come to you and show you the collection of photos that I have prepared from you session. You can invite ANYONE you plan on buying any photographs (or anyone you want to show off to). I will also show you any wall art collections or albums I have created for you. This is also the step where you will purchase any photos and be able to choose your top 20 favorite photos to add to your personalized app. (See more about that by clicking here).
